Flower Tales

2024. 8. 2.-30.
Green Note Art Shop Gallery

Once upon a time, In the middle of the infinite-blue ocean, there was a little beautiful island. An island without winter, with a nature wide awake in all the seasons. All year round there were different flowers blooming, decorating the streets, parks and mountains into different colors. If you get to know them, you can discover that all of these flowers have unique personalities, and their own stories to tell you.

At this exhibition I would like to share some stories with you, about the journey of the Wind.

She spent her days running around the shore, gazing into the island from the far. She got a bit lonely alone on the big blue ocean, and she got curious about all the different colors of the far away island. One day she decided to blow into the island, and discover all the flowers during the year, hoping to find some friends…

Visit the Green Note Gallery in Ginowan, and join the journey of the wind, meet her new flower friends, listen to the stories of the Flowers of Okinawa.

The first act of the Flower Tales, you can meet some flowers blooming from January to July. In the huge gallery space I display my newest character design paintings of some flowers, and also tons of tiny watercolor sketches I made outside. You can see my new Cherry Blossom oil painting series as well. I only paint with oil, when I feel I can deepen the connection with my subject enough, that I can pass watercolor and change it into oil. So my oil paintings are always special. This series called the "Life of a Cherry Blossom. I wanted to depict the circle of a blooming blossom, as a dancing ballerina. I chose the size of the canvases in connection with how "loud" I felt the cherry blossom in each stage. I also wanted to show the change in the color of the blossoms from vivid to deep pink, and also show how the blossoms don't fly away, but fall down the ground intact.

It was really fun to play around with round canvases.

The bigest painting of the exhibition is the "Friendship of the Pink and Yellow". Inspired by the March scene of Okinawa city, when the bougainvillea and the golden trumpet tree blooms together. These flowers dancing together, only divided by the blue spring sky had so big inpact on me, I spent months designing and painting this personification concept art.

I paint way too much flowers, I don't have time to create character designs of all of them unfortunately... Some of them I paint for years, until I finally get myself to create the face, to see behind the impression of the watercolor sketches. The new paintings of this year are Trumpet Lily, Deigo, Bird of Paradise and Powderpuff Mangroove. All these gals have different persoanlities, different impressions, and gave me different challenges while creating, designing and painting them. This is like a process of getting to know them. Maybe next year some of them comes back on an oil painting^^

Since I don't have the time to paint so much big character paintings through the year, I decided to do One tiny painting every month, so I can make sure that I do design the flower characters. And this square frame is so cute it makes me want to paint more and more!

Oh how many different flowers the wind met through her journey! Some were friendly, some were more private. Some were full of energy, some were more melancholic. All have their unique personality, and the Wind learned so much from them, she even learned about herself thanks to them! She is ready to continue her journey, to befriend more flowers, and learn new things!

Would you like to join her?

What flowers would you like her to befriend?

Come to my exhibition or Leave me a message on my site^^

See you in the next adventure!
