Okinawa Flower Adventures Part 1
FIND YOUR WINGS
watercolor on paper, 2023
On Okinawa, the winter season means PINK! Lot’s of pink flowers are blossoming, besides my beloved cherry ballerinas! So this year I decided to try and give some attention to them as well, and try not to go crazy on the sakura!
Our first adventure this year leads us to the amazing Cosmos Flowers!
I love the cosmos, I painted a lot back when I was living in Nagano. But in Okinawa, the cosmos season is different so I missed it every year! (Also because I concentrate too much on the sakuraXD)
Location is the Cosmos Field of Yomitan, near the town office.
Clear blue sky, strong wind is blowing toward the near ocean. There was a very nice wide field, with thousands of pink flowers waving in the wind. I had a feeling I was about to dive into a pink ocean!
In Hungarian, the cosmos called “butterfly flower”. They ARE like butterflies! Waving their wings in the wind, bouncing and dancing back and forth.
But let’s take a closer look. Let’s dive into this pink ocean!
Sitting under the cosmos, watching the pink butterflies above, embracing the blue sky.
As I slowly move my sight down to the ground, I realize that I sank under the pink, into an enormous green stem forest!
Each butterfly has a thin and flexible, but strong stem, they are moving constantly, letting their flowers dance. But they never let them fly away. Like little girls holding onto their balloons, but they need the string! The balloons purpose are to fly. But if the string breaks, and the balloon flies away, the girl will be heartbroken!
I used to feel bad for those butterflies, who could never fly away. But I now realize the beauty in the way of the cosmos. How nice that they can reach to the sky, the can dance in the wind! But they are safely attached to the ground. Like balloons attached to the wrist of our little girl. With a string that will never break. Above a heart that will never break.
And they are together forever, in a big pink cosmos!
Here is how I displayed my Cosmos friend and her story on my exhibition in Camp Foster Library, March 2023.
THEY ARE DISPLAYED UNTIL THE END OF MARCH!
COME AND SAY HI TO THEM IF YOUR JOURNEY TAKES YOU TO THE LIBRARY!
